VALE DO IATAJAÍ

In Santa Catarina is the Vale do Itajai. The region has the highest population density in the state. Its population is composed mostly by descendants of Europeans from the late 19th and early 20th century. Another portion is of Portuguese descent from the majority of the Azorean Islands. Yet this population has no access to European films, which are directly linked to their culture, much less movies from other continents to present new ways of seeing the world. The Vale do Itajai is an important meeting point of the cultural identity of Santa Catarina.

 

BALNEÁRIO CAMBORIÚ

Located in the delta of the river Itajai, Balneário Camboriú is a city whose main characteristic is the intense exploitation of tourism. With it’s beaches and natural beauty attracts lots of visitors from the interior of Santa Catarina and other states such as Rio Grande do Sul, Parana, Sao Paulo and the MERCOSUR countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile. This configuration allows for large events where participants can enjoy warm hospitality and good local shops. It has a permanent population of about 100 000 habitants and receives more than 1 million tourists per year. With a prime location, has easy access Balneário Camboriú the BR-101 doubled, and the BRS-470 and 282. Near the city are the international airports Hercílio Luz, Florianópolis, 80km away, and the Mariners, just 17km. The city has approximately 18 000 beds distributed in a solid and diverse hotel network 100 hotels, and convention centers and structured. Every care is highlighted by hand-to-educated work force, which prints a difference in quality in all services.

THE THEATER

Located in the heart of the city is a great street theater – Cine Itália – with capacity for 700 people. In the same place is one of the largest collections of Latin American cinema projectors with specimens dating from the pre-cinema. Unfortunately street theaters in Brazil are increasingly rare and Cine Itália tries to resist the holding of special events. It must be re-designed the room to its original goal: the projection of motion pictures. So we want to enjoy the qualities of the city and the existence of a theater of such importance for the maintenance of national culture by performing an international film festival with the real possibility of expansion, becoming an important focus in the movies.
